What Is Bacteriostatic Water?
Bacteriostatic Water (BW) is sterile water for injection containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, allowing the same vial to be accessed multiple times without contamination — making it the standard reconstitution solution for lyophilised (freeze-dried) research peptides and proteins.
Each 10ml vial provides sufficient volume to reconstitute multiple peptide vials, depending on the desired concentration.
How It Works — Mechanism of Action
N/A — Bacteriostatic Water is not a biologically active compound. It functions purely as a reconstitution vehicle, dissolving lyophilised peptide powder into a stable injectable solution. The 0.9% benzyl alcohol content prevents microbial proliferation across multiple draw events, extending the usable life of reconstituted peptide solutions.

Dosing & Administration
Bacteriostatic Water is used to reconstitute lyophilised peptide powders. The volume added determines the final concentration of the solution.
General reconstitution guide:
- Add BW slowly to the lyophilised vial using a syringe, directing the stream down the side of the glass — not directly onto the powder
- Swirl gently — never shake
- Allow to dissolve fully before drawing
- Refrigerate reconstituted solution at 2–8°C
- Use within 28 days of reconstitution
- Discard if solution appears cloudy or contains visible particles
⚠️ Important: Not all peptides reconstitute with Bacteriostatic Water. Some peptides (e.g. GHRP-6, CJC-1295 no DAC) may require acetic acid solution or another specific reconstitution medium. Always verify the correct solvent for your specific peptide before reconstituting. Using the wrong reconstitution medium can degrade or denature the peptide.

Side Effects & Safety
Bacteriostatic Water is well-tolerated when used correctly as a reconstitution vehicle.
- Do not inject undiluted bacteriostatic water in large volumes — it is intended as a diluent, not a standalone injectable
- Individuals with benzyl alcohol sensitivity should not use BW-based reconstitutions
- Store at 2°C–8°C. Do not freeze.
- Single-use sterility is not guaranteed after the stopper has been punctured — maintain aseptic technique at all times
Synergy Stacks
N/A — Bacteriostatic Water is a reconstitution accessory and does not stack pharmacologically with other compounds. It is a required preparation tool for virtually all injectable research peptides available on this site.
